The Bilea shelving unit from 1960 is a Romanian interpretation of mid-century modern design. The construction features veneered plywood—walnut and maple—finished in a semi-matte lacquer that accentuates the warm brown tones and highlights the natural wood grain. The geometric form, measuring 165 × 105 × 35 cm, combines open upper shelves with a closed, two-door cabinet at the base. Small, round handles adorn the fronts, while slightly tapered legs give the piece a sense of lightness. Attention to detail is evident in the smooth edges and seamless transitions between elements. Professionally restored, the surface has been stripped of old finishes and treated with multiple layers of durable, scratch- and fade-resistant lacquer.The shelving unit communicates clarity and calm, hallmarks of 1960s design.
