This 1950s Moroccan shoeshine kit exemplifies the intersection of artisanal expertise and everyday function in mid-century North African folk design. Constructed from warmly toned, mature hardwood with a deep brown, slightly reddish patina, its structure is adorned with intricately stamped and engraved brass sheets. The brass, featuring a satin-matte finish softened by natural patina and oxidation, defines the kit’s geometric silhouette with tactile dots and linear motifs. The lid supports four robust, turned brass finials and an elegant, creamy white arabesque ornament, either inlaid or painted into the metal. Twin side compartments each contain six glass bottles—some in blue-green hues, others clear—topped with original, delicately aged brass screw-caps; the glass exhibits the gently rippled texture typical of mid-century blown glass.
