ABOUT PRODUCTID 9592
The H-259 coffee table, designed by Jindřich Halabala for UP Závody Brno in the 1950s, exemplifies Central European modernism through its functional and distinctive design. The construction features four widely splayed, dramatically curved beechwood legs, smoothly finished and stained in a warm, medium brown. The tabletop is square with rounded corners and a thick profile, veneered in walnut to emphasize the natural wood grain, protected by a satin to semi-matte finish. With proportions of 65 × 65 × 65 cm, the table appears both compact and dynamic; the legs are seamlessly integrated into the top, without visible hardware, underscoring the craftsmanship and attention to detail. The table has undergone professional restoration: old finishes have been carefully removed, stained in an oak tone, and sealed with high-quality Danish oil. It is preserved in excellent, restored condition, showing no visible signs of wear. Its form echoes the voice of postwar Central Europe: Halabala designed with clarity, but never anonymity—the legs reach outward like spider limbs, giving the table a poised, almost kinetic energy. The warm brown hue and tactile wood grain tell of an era where function was inseparable from restrained artistry. The table quietly conveys a narrative of a time when design was meant to be accessible, yet uncompromising in material quality and craftsmanship. It can be paired with a classic mid-century sofa or upholstered armchairs with clean lines—equally at home in modernist interiors or more eclectic, collector-inspired settings. Complementing the table with a minimalist table lamp or sculptural ceramics will highlight its geometric silhouette. Against
