ABOUT PRODUCTID 28369
This sideboard from the 1960s, an example of German modernism, is constructed from teak veneer in a warm, medium-brown tone with a satin finish. The sliding door is covered in matte, cobalt-blue Formica, offering a solid, bold accent framed by teak elements, including a long vertical handle. Two fixed shelves in the open section and four slender black steel legs underline the lightness and proportions typical of mid-century modern furniture. The construction is precise: sharp right angles, solid wood edges, and discreet joinery speak to the high level of craftsmanship. The piece is in very good condition following professional restoration, with no visible damage, discoloration, or signs of heavy use. All fittings and details are original or have been carefully renewed to maintain authenticity. This sideboard embodies the postwar optimism of the 1960s: its form speaks in the language of an era that valued order, light, and a sense of freshness. The cobalt front serves as a pulsating accent, evoking the spirit of modernism where color and function coexisted without unnecessary ornamentation. The body, subtly elevated above the floor, seems ready for a new narrative—one of a modern home that appreciates both practicality and the subtle play of detail. The sideboard could be paired with a sofa featuring clean lines and neutral upholstery, or with a mid-century style armchair to emphasize its modernist heritage. It would work well in a spacious living room with a light palette, where the blue front enlivens the space. It is worth combining it with a lamp on a black base, an abstract artwork on the wall, and accessories in natural wood or ceramics to highlight the interplay of textures and the light on the teak and Formica surfaces.
