ABOUT PRODUCTID 16263
Designed by Tom Robertson for McIntosh and produced in the United Kingdom during the 1960s, this sideboard embodies the mid-century modern aesthetic in its proportions and cabinetry details. Made from teak wood in a warm medium brown tone with a subtle reddish undertone, the piece features a semi-matte finish achieved with high-quality Danish oil, enhancing the wood's natural grain—especially prominent across the front panels. Integrated, sculpted handles run as a continuous line across the tops of the drawers and cabinets. The left side features three drawers, while the right offers three cabinet sections, including a bar compartment and a pull-out tray. The whole composition rests on gently splayed, sculptural legs. The absence of exposed hardware and the seamless joinery underscore the project's minimalist concept and refined craftsmanship. The overall surface is smooth and even, with no visible signs of wear; the sideboard is in excellent condition following comprehensive restoration that has respected its original character. This sideboard resonates with the spirit of its era: simplicity paired with discreet inventiveness. The noble, clean-lined form and balanced proportions create a sense of order and harmony characteristic of British modernism. The subtle play of light on the satiny finish and the tactile warmth of natural teak evoke an age of thoughtful design, when daily rituals and understated elegance defined the home environment. The sideboard can be positioned in a living room alongside low-profile, geometric sofas or upholstered chairs in neutral tones. It pairs well with minimalist lighting, glass or ceramic accessories, and charcoal textiles, establishing a cohesive accent within interiors inspired by mid-century modern style. In a more eclectic setting, it may be combined with furniture in contrasting colors or soft textures to highlight the crisp silhouette and natural finish.
