ABOUT PRODUCTID 9927
This sideboard, designed by Tom Robertson for McIntosh in the 1960s, exemplifies British modernism, where precise craftsmanship meets functional design. The construction features teak wood with a warm, pronounced grain, finished in a satin to semi-matte sheen using high-quality Danish oil. On the left are three drawers with smoothly sculpted, integrated handles; the central section is a double-door cabinet with round wooden knobs, while the right side houses a bar compartment with a subtly curved front and pull-out shelf. Slender, gently tapered legs enhance the floating effect typical of mid-century modern pieces. The entire sideboard is preserved in excellent, authentic condition—fully restored, with no visible signs of wear or patina, and all original design details intact. This sideboard tells the story of 1960s Britain—a time when practicality and restrained forms were balanced by the subtle elegance of natural materials. Its proportions are carefully considered: every line and detail, from the soft satin finish to the sculptural handles, reflects a respect for wood and a pursuit of harmony. The teak surface plays with light in a way that evokes the calm, afternoon interiors of modernist homes, where each piece was valued for both purpose and presence. The sideboard could be placed in a living room as a buffet beneath a low-hung artwork or as a central element in an open-plan area. Pairing it with an organically shaped armchair or a 1960s floor lamp would highlight its heritage. Combined with other teak furnishings or minimalist upholstery in shades of grey, it would create a cohesive mid-century modern atmosphere; with white or dark green ceramics, its natural texture and rich wood tone would be further accentuated.
