ABOUT PRODUCTID 28429
This sideboard by Lothar Wegner was produced in Germany in the 1960s, exemplifying the mid-century modern style. Measuring 160 x 35 x 72 cm, the piece is crafted from warm medium walnut veneer with a distinct, natural wood grain. The top is finished in matte black Formica, offering a subtle contrast to the wood's warmth. The front features two clear glass sliding doors revealing spacious compartments, each with an adjustable shelf finished in the same walnut veneer. The sideboard stands on four square-section steel legs, powder-coated in matte black, which reinforce its minimalist silhouette. The construction is meticulous, with sharp edges and seamless joints, and the surfaces display a refined, satin sheen. Condition: restored – the piece is in very good shape, with no visible signs of wear or repairs, and all elements, including glass doors and metal legs, are original and harmoniously integrated. This sideboard echoes the spirit of German modernism from the 1960s: function shaped by form, with materials that are honest and straightforward. The glow of the walnut veneer conjures the atmosphere of domestic interiors of the era, where light gently glides across smooth surfaces. Sliding glass doors seem to invite display and organization—perhaps of glassware or a vinyl collection—while the black steel legs subtly elevate the cabinet, letting it breathe within the room. The piece narrates a story of precision and balance, valuing both practicality and the quiet rhythm of everyday life. The sideboard can be used in a living room as a main storage or display piece—ideally positioned beneath a painting or graphic, amid minimalist sofas and 1960s floor lamps. It may be paired with neutral-toned textiles and low coffee tables featuring metal accents to emphasize stylistic cohesion. The piece finds its place in mid-century modern
