ABOUT PRODUCTID 6907
Designed by Hubert Nepožitek and Bohulim Landsman for Jitona in 1960s Czechoslovakia, this sideboard is a quintessential example of Central European mid-century modern. Its construction features a sturdy case in light, honey-toned wood with a matte finish and visible, symmetrical wood grain across the front panels. The design is defined by clean, straight lines, gently rounded vertical edges, and splayed, integrated legs that provide both visual lightness and structural stability. The only visible hardware is a small, centrally placed metallic handle, reinforcing the minimalist ethos. There are no decorative embellishments; instead, precise joinery and a smooth, uninterrupted surface highlight the craftsmanship of the era. The overall condition is very good – the left rear corner has a minor, previously restored chip filled with wax; the glass is in good condition, and there are no modern replacements or alterations. This sideboard carries the quiet optimism of the 1960s: simplicity of form paired with practical function, while the natural wood grain evokes a sense of conviviality in modernist Czechoslovak homes. Its rounded silhouette and soft, matte sheen seem to tell a story of a time when everyday objects brought harmony and calm into daily life. The piece does not dominate a space but rather integrates seamlessly, recalling the order and serenity sought by designers of that period. The sideboard can be paired with geometric sofas or upholstered chairs in muted tones to accentuate its modernist roots. It would perform well in a living room as a platform for a 1960s table lamp or a collection of glass vases, and could also serve as a console beneath a rectangular mirror. Interiors inspired by mid-century modern or Central European eclecticism would allow this piece to reveal its refined subtlety and enduring appeal.
