ABOUT PRODUCTID 38785
This rosewood highboard, designed by E. W. Bach for the Danish manufacturer Sejling Skabe in the 1960s, exemplifies the refined ethos of Mid-Century Modern design, where functionality meets minimalist form. The body is crafted from rosewood with deep, contrasting brown and almost black grain patterns, imparting a dynamic and luxurious character. The satin-matte finish enhances the natural beauty of the wood. The front panels feature seamlessly integrated, subtly curved wooden handles, and the whole piece stands on slender, tapered legs reinforced with a horizontal stretcher. The cabinet offers three wide drawers at the bottom, while above, three sliding doors conceal shelves, a bar compartment, and two smaller inner drawers. The quality of craftsmanship is apparent in the precise joinery and continuous grain patterning across the fronts. Fully restored, the surface remains smooth, with the wood's natural luster retained and no visible signs of wear. The striking form and noble material echo the voice of Danish modernism from the 1960s. The cabinet seems to tell a story of an era where clarity of line and utility defined design. The rosewood, animated by shifting light across its grain, speaks of artisanal precision and proportion—inviting a tactile encounter with decades past. The minimalist handles quietly accentuate the rhythm of the fronts, imparting a sense of tranquility and order distinctive to Scandinavian living. This piece could be paired with furniture of light, geometric silhouette—such as a low coffee table in wood or metal, or with upholstered lounge chairs in subdued tones. It would suit a living space with mid-century modern accents, as well as contemporary, minimalist interiors where the structure of the material is celebrated. It is worth
