ABOUT PRODUCTID 3547
This skier figurine from the 1920s was designed by Karl Hagenauer and produced by the renowned Werkstätte Hagenauer Wien in Vienna. Crafted from chromed brass and patinated steel, the sculpture is distinguished by its Art Deco geometry and reduction of form. The highly stylized skier, with a dynamic, abstract silhouette and minimalist details such as slender metal poles with small discs, embodies a modernist aesthetic. The polished, glossy base and skis contrast with the dark, matte finish of the body, while its proportions (15 cm high, 17.5 cm long, 5.5 cm wide) make it a striking decorative piece. The figurine is in very good vintage condition, with localized discoloration and patina on the steel, consistent with age and material. The form of this piece echoes the spirit of Austrian modernism from the 1920s—a time when craftsmanship and avant-garde design found common ground. The minimalist lines and cool sheen of chrome evoke an era fascinated by movement, sport, and the promise of modernity. The skier appears caught in mid-descent, suspended in a single moment of pure energy, as the material itself tells a story of speed and freedom emblematic of the interwar years. The figurine can be displayed on a low, dark wood sideboard, where the metallic surface will highlight the depth of its surroundings. It would pair well with a modernist mirror or a lamp with a geometric shape to create a cohesive Art Deco arrangement. The piece works particularly well in a living room curated with collectible accents, serving as a subtle yet intriguing focal point. It may also be combined with other 1920s objects or contrasted with smooth, contemporary surfaces to emphasize its timeless character.
