This original Biedermeier sofa, crafted circa 1825 in Vienna, exemplifies the mastery of early 19th-century Austrian furniture. The slender frame in warm, medium-toned walnut veneer contrasts with the cool, blue-grey velvet upholstery, which features a subtly striated texture and matte finish. The gently curved backrest and elegantly scrolled armrests display hand-carved details, while the top rail is adorned with a geometric motif in darker wood — signatures of Biedermeier precision and proportion. The front legs are turned and tapered, harmonizing with the slightly splayed rear legs for stability and poise. The upholstery remains original, complemented on the reverse with period linen fabric. The seat is supported by quality springs, which are still resilient. The sofa is preserved in very good condition, with only minor, age-appropriate traces of use on the wood and fabric, free from obvious damage or heavy restoration.
