ABOUT PRODUCTID 6096
This sommerso centerpiece bowl, designed by Alessandro Mandruzzato, was produced in the renowned Murano glassworks in Italy during the 1970s. The hallmark sommerso technique creates a striking sense of depth by submerging a layer of rich amber-gold glass within a clear mass, accented by a deep cognac-brown interior. The bowl’s thick walls form a strong geometric silhouette, highlighted by flat, faceted planes with a high-gloss polish and contrasting angled sides with a subtly frosted, ice-like texture. With proportions of 15 cm in width and 6 cm in height, the piece possesses both sculptural weight and presence. Craftsmanship is evident in the sharp edges and smooth transitions of color, as light plays dynamically across its surface. The bowl is preserved in very good vintage condition; a small, less visible chip on the lower edge does not detract from its overall impression. The form of this bowl tells the story of Italian modernism in the 1970s: bold lines and the noble substance of glass evoke the era’s sculptural objects, designed to serve both function and artistic expression.
