ABOUT PRODUCTID 38286
This sugar bowl, produced by Norblin & Co. in Warsaw during the 1920s, is a refined example of Polish Art Deco. The vessel’s construction is rooted in precise geometry: a cylindrical body with a gently rounded base rests on a wide, circular foot. The conical lid, with its stepped profile, is crowned by a distinctive, stylized triangular handle. The double-framed, vertically oriented rectangular handles on each side reinforce the architectural quality of the design. Crafted from brass with its original silver plating in a cool, subtly matte tone, the surface reveals a uniform silvering with fine scratches and a gentle patina characteristic of noble metals from this era. The underside bears the Norblin & Co. signature and a catalog number, confirming its authenticity. The sugar bowl has been preserved in very good condition, with original silver plating and no signs of restoration. This piece resonates with the spirit of the interwar period—a time when Polish craftsmanship sought a modern synthesis of tradition and avant-garde. Its clean lines and restrained detailing evoke the atmosphere of Warsaw’s cafés and salons, where Norblin’s silver-plated wares were an integral part of the elegant table. The minimalist form is not without character: geometric proportions and thoughtful detailing blend into a harmonious whole, offering a subtle narrative about an era that valued both function and refinement. The sugar bowl can be displayed on a classic dining table, pairing well with streamlined porcelain or Art Deco glassware. It would also suit a contemporary setting as a counterpoint to minimalist ceramics and glass. Consider combining it with a walnut wood tray or a linen tablecloth to accentuate its cool sheen and historic character. It works both in vintage collector’s interiors and in more eclectic arrangements where history meets modernity.
