ABOUT PRODUCTID 17571
Produced in Warsaw in the early 1950s, this Art Deco sugar bowl conveys a restrained, geometric clarity. The elongated oval body is flanked by angular, square handles seamlessly joined to the side walls, offering a bold contrast to the vessel’s soft edges and underscoring its modernist character. The hinged lid is topped with a raised, half-moon handle in keeping with the piece’s geometric rhythm. Fabricated from brass and meticulously finished with multiple layers of silver plating, the surface presents a cool, uniform satin sheen with subtle, brushed strokes visible. Warmer brass undertones gently emerge in certain areas, adding visual depth. The sugar bowl is gently elevated on small spherical feet, lending a hint of lightness and lifting it subtly above the tabletop. Throughout, the craftsmanship remains precise: clean soldered joints, securely attached handles, and a perfectly fitting lid. Condition: very good, with a soft patina and occasional surface marks consistent with age, no significant damage or repairs. The form of this sugar bowl reflects the tone of postwar Poland, when decorative austerity met the emergence of a modern vision. Geometric handles establish an architectural cadence, while the satin silver finish softly mirrors the minimalist ambience of the 1950s—a period in which Art Deco heritage blended with the logic of modernism. Faint patina and glimpses of underlying brass become traces of passing time, lending the piece a concise narrative of an era focused on proportion and clarity of form. This sugar bowl could be combined with porcelain tableware of clean lines, classic cups, or geometric glass cake stands, providing a thoughtful accent in a dining or living space inspired by mid-century modern.
