ABOUT PRODUCTID 11682
This Art Nouveau sugar bowl, produced by WMF in Germany around 1895–1910, exemplifies turn-of-the-century craftsmanship inspired by the Art Nouveau movement. The body, made of silver-plated brass, displays a cool, matte finish with areas of natural patina and subtle darkening typical of age. An openwork frieze, featuring repeating stylized floral and geometric motifs in oxidized silver, ornaments the upper rim. Inside, a clear cobalt-blue glass liner provides a striking chromatic accent, visible through the filigree decoration. The handles are richly decorated, with flowing, asymmetrical lines and botanical details characteristic of the Art Nouveau style. The proportions are harmonious: a wide, rounded body is set on a slender, high pedestal, with elegantly curved handles extending above the rim. The precise craftsmanship is evident in the metalwork detailing and seamless joints. The surface retains its natural patina, with no visible damage or repairs. The overall condition is very good, preserving original elements and the authentic character of the period. This sugar bowl resonates with the voice of Art Nouveau, an era when ornamentation infused everyday objects. Its matte silver and organic lines evoke a time when WMF artisans transformed utilitarian vessels into refined accents for the salon. Light filtering through the openwork and blue glass hints at gatherings over tea, when subtle
