ABOUT PRODUCTID 28968
This French powdered sugar shaker from 1900–20 exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of the transitional period between Belle Époque and early Art Deco. The body, made from clear, colorless glass, features a precisely cut octagonal shape that narrows gently towards the top. The smooth, glossy surface of the glass contrasts with the highly polished silver mount and perforated lid, designed for precise dispensing of powdered sugar. The silver (950 standard) is hallmarked with the French Minerva head and silversmith’s initials, confirming its authenticity and provenance. The overall design emphasizes geometric simplicity typical of the era’s shift from late decorative fin de siècle motifs to the restrained modernity of Art Deco. The construction is solid, with balanced proportions (height 13.5 cm, diameter 8 cm). The piece is preserved in very good condition, with no visible chips, cracks, or signs of clouding on glass or silver. This compact shaker echoes the atmosphere of Parisian salons in the early twentieth century: conversations over coffee, pastries dusted with sugar, and the understated elegance of daily rituals. Its slender, geometric lines and radiant silver evoke an era when functional tableware was imbued with the character of fine jewelry. The vessel tells the story of how clear glass and noble silver merged into functional ornaments—both practical tools and subtle markers of taste. The shaker can be used on a classic table setting, accompanied by porcelain dinnerware and silver cutlery. It may be paired with a crystal decanter or stemmed glasses to highlight the noble simplicity of its materials. It also serves as a delicate accent in a modern interior—placed on a minimalist tray among white or pastel
