These French sugar tongs from the second half of the 19th century are crafted in solid silver, hallmarked with a state silver standard and a maker’s mark. The construction is robust, with precisely executed joints and a sturdy, hand-finished spring mechanism. The overall tone is a cool, slightly matte silver with a gentle patina that highlights the age and authenticity of the piece. The handles are finished with finely detailed ram heads; the central section is lavishly decorated with rocaille elements, floral accents, and a blank medallion designed for engraving a monogram, initials, or date. The gripping ends are shaped like acorns, blending smooth surfaces with areas of intricate relief. The tongs measure 15.6 cm in length and weigh 38 g.
