This pair of tall table candlesticks was crafted in the second half of the 19th century by the Fraget manufactory in Warsaw – one of the most renowned Polish silversmiths of the era. Made from brass and silver-plated using traditional methods, they combine turned and repoussé elements, with construction based on precise soldering. Each candlestick stands 27 cm tall with a solid 11.5 x 11.5 cm square base; classic late historicist design is visible in the elaborate floral and neoclassical decorative motifs. The surface has a predominantly matte finish, with soft light reflections and a natural, time-developed patina. Silver plating is subtly worn along raised patterns and edges, revealing underlying golden brass tones. The shaft features rhythmic geometric division, while the base displays gentle bevels on the corners. The overall condition is good, with authentic traces of age – small abrasions and subtle darkened areas, typical for late 19th-century silver-plated brass.These candlesticks still resonate with the voice of Warsaw’s belle époque: their form evokes an era when ornament was a reflection of bourgeois status and tradition, and the glow of candlelight was part of domestic ritual.
