This table lamp, produced by Val St Lambert in Belgium during the 1960s, embodies the hallmarks of mature mid-century modern design. Its base is formed from thick, hand-shaped glass, featuring a vivid cobalt blue core encased within transparent glass. The clear layer is enriched with evenly distributed, delicate air bubbles, imparting the surface with a visually dynamic texture and optical depth. The lamp is crowned by a slightly tapered, cylindrical shade in matte off-white fabric and a brass socket bearing a natural patina. It comes with a white electrical cord and a round foot switch; the base measures 10 × 10 cm, with an overall height (including shade) of approximately 24 cm, 20 cm without the shade, and a shade diameter of 15 cm. The condition is very good: the glass is free from damage, while only minor, age-appropriate traces of use are visible on the metal and textile components.This piece resonates with the spirit of Belgian glassmaking from the 1960s, when glass was elevated to an artistic medium in its own right. The deep blue core, suspended within clear glass, calls to mind a drop of frozen light.
