This table lamp, designed by François Chatain in France during the 1980s, exemplifies postmodern sensibility through its sculptural, pebble-like ceramic base. The foundation is composed of matte-finished ceramic elements stacked in gentle succession—ranging from deep black at the bottom, through olive green, pale grey-green, off-white, and culminating in a warm taupe tone. Each 'stone' presents a smooth, tactile matte surface that emphasizes the organic, natural appeal of the material. The wide, conical lampshade is made from warm off-white cotton fabric, subtly textured and matte, creating a soft diffusion of light.
