This table lamp from Deruta, Italy, dating to the 1950s, exemplifies the classic tradition of Italian mid-century modern ceramics. The ceramic base, slightly bulbous with a narrow neck, is crafted using the sgraffito technique—matte, earthy reddish-brown abstract patterns are incised into the warm, glossy light yellow glaze. Bold, hand-carved motifs and a zigzag band at the top and bottom highlight the artisanal roots of the piece. The lamp is finished with a simple, subtly conical white fabric lampshade, balancing the decorative base. It stands 40 cm tall (base) with an 8 cm diameter at the foot and an approximately 20 cm high shade. The condition is very good, with only a small chip on the edge of the base that predates glazing, a detail that attests to its vintage authenticity. The lamp’s form tells a story of mid-century Italian design: the tactile sgraffito recalls the workshops of Deruta where craftsmanship met modernist experimentation
