This chrome table lamp by Solken, crafted in Germany during the 1960s, is a prime example of mid-century modern and space age design. The base features highly polished chrome with a mirror-like finish, formed as a slender cylinder topped by a sculptural sphere. The lamp is crowned with a new drum-shaped shade made from original Marimekko Unikko fabric—an iconic pattern designed by Maija Isola in 1964. The shade displays a bold graphic floral motif in shades of deep and light blue, with black accents on a crisp white ground. The proportions are harmonious, with the substantial shade balancing the slim, reflective base. A black power cord with an inline switch completes the composition. The lamp has undergone a full electrical refurbishment and both the base and shade are in very good condition with no visible signs of wear.This lamp embodies the spirit of the 1960s, when fascination with modern materials and geometric forms merged with a bold approach to color.
