This glass table lamp was crafted in the 1960s by Belgium’s renowned Val St Lambert manufactory. The substantial base is made from solid, hand-shaped cased glass with a striking gradient: deep ruby red at the bottom transitions into near transparency at the upper sections and edges. The highly polished, mirror-like surface reflects light, while dynamic, organic contours interplay with the geometric fluting that typifies mid-century modern design. Sculptural, star-shaped feet lend visual lightness. The shade is of plain, matte white textile in a gently tapering conical form, attached directly to the E27 bulb socket. The brass-toned electric cord complements the overall composition. The lamp is preserved in very good vintage condition, with no visible damage and only minimal, almost imperceptible traces of use. The form of this lamp tells a story of a decade when light moved beyond utility to become an architectural accent and a carrier of ambience.
