This tabletop nutcracker from the second half of the 19th century stands as a distinctive example of Polish metalwork, likely originating from Warsaw workshops in the Neo-Rococo spirit of the era. Crafted from bronze and finished with silver plating highlighted by subtle gilded accents, it features a wide, stable base and a slender, vertically positioned lever designed to crack nuts of various sizes. The surface is adorned with raised, swirling motifs of leaves and flowers, marked by organic, asymmetrical lines and sharp ornamental detail. Where the silvering has gently worn away, warm bronze tones emerge, while a delicate patina enhances the object’s authenticity. The structure is solid, with a central hinge and two separate openings for different nut sizes. Its proportions and decorative richness harmoniously combine utility with artistry.
