ABOUT PRODUCTID 13454
This Rococo-style tea caddy, crafted in France at the beginning of the 20th century, is composed of pressed glass in a cool, transparent tone and finished with pewter details. The tall, cylindrical construction features a complex decorative scheme: diamond-cut patterns on the lid and upper rim, horizontal bands with starbursts and ribbed ornamentation, plus the interplay of smooth and textured glass segments. The handle, lid fitting, and rim are executed in silvery pewter with a subtle patina, creating a striking visual contrast. The ornate, asymmetrical pewter handle, with foliage accents and pierced scrollwork, exemplifies the revived Rococo movement in French decorative arts. Harmonious proportions result from the juxtaposition of the solid vertical jar and the delicately stylized lid. No damages are visible, and only minor patina is present on the pewter, so the piece remains in very good original condition, with no evidence of restoration. The vessel’s form evokes the ambiance of early 20th-century French tea tables, where the transparent glass revealed the color of tea leaves and the pewter grip signaled the start of everyday ritual. The exuberant Rococo decoration—swirling, yet disciplined by the symmetry of the central finial—reflects an age when utilitarian objects were also designed for visual delight. In the interplay of light across the cut glass and the soft patina of the pewter, one senses echoes of quiet conversations and the timeless pace of salon gatherings. The tea caddy can be
