ABOUT PRODUCTID 22341
This silver tea strainer, crafted in the Soviet Union after 1922, exemplifies early 20th-century neoclassical tableware design with characteristic Russian decorative influences. Its form echoes a miniature pail with a scalloped, undulating rim and a cool, matte exterior surface, adorned with hand-engraved floral and vegetal motifs. The interior and rim are finished to a subtle polish, providing contrast and highlighting the engraved details. The handle, made from thin, bent silver wire, is attached symmetrically on both sides, while the original clip allows for secure mounting on a teapot spout. The bottom is perforated with fine holes for loose-leaf tea brewing. Height without handle: 3 cm; with handle: 7 cm; diameter: 5 cm; weight: 20.5 g. The piece is preserved in very good condition, with no visible dents or repairs and an authentic patina attesting to its age and originality. The shape of this strainer evokes the atmosphere of tea ceremonies from a bygone era, when even daily rituals became moments of quiet celebration. The cool silver, hand-engraved details, and vegetal ornamentation seem to whisper of early Soviet and late Imperial Russia, where domestic tableware reflected a blend of tradition and understated artistry. The clip for mounting on the spout suggests a scene with a family samovar, while the scalloped rim echoes the neoclassical taste for subtle, decorative flourishes. This tea strainer can be paired with a classic porcelain cup or bowl to emphasize its antique character. It fits seamlessly
