ABOUT PRODUCTID 21301
This antique tea strainer from Vienna, dating to around 1886, exemplifies late 19th-century Austro-Hungarian craftsmanship. The construction features a refined marriage of materials: the main strainer body is crafted in silver with a cool, subtly matte finish, while the handle is made from natural bone in a creamy beige hue, highlighted by yellowish undertones and organic grain patterns. The bowl of the strainer is adorned with a symmetrical floral motif formed by precise perforations, and a wide, gently sloped rim provides visual balance and functional stability. The ornately shaped handle, with its rococo-inspired curves, stands in contrast to the neoclassical restraint of the silver section. The visible rivets securing bone to silver reflect traditional silversmithing methods. Hallmarks include the Diana’s head in clover and the goldsmith’s initials “AP”. The piece weighs 60 g, measures 16.6 cm in length and 9.6 cm in diameter. It is preserved in very good condition, with no cracks or visible damage; the silver shows only minimal signs of age, and the bone handle retains its original luster and integrity. This object evokes the atmosphere of fin-de-siècle Vienna, where the ritual of tea was an expression of subtle sophistication. Silver, cool and disciplined, suggests bourgeois order, while the bone handle—soft in contour and fanciful in form—whispers of the small pleasures of a bygone era. The filigree perforations cast a delicate shadow over the table, and the tactile feel of bone recalls the intimacy
