This original theatre poster, designed by Jan Marcin Szancer in 1968 for the Warsaw Dramatic Theatre’s production of 'Ja Napoleon' (play by Joanna Olczak-Ronikier, directed by Andrzej Szczepkowski), measures 58 × 78.5 cm and was printed in an edition of 2,000. It captures the spirit of the 1960s Polish Poster School, evident in the expressive graphic line and subtle, muted palette of taupe, beige, and grey washes, finished in a matte texture. Against this painterly background stands a stylised, almost caricatural portrait of Napoleon, with minimal yet vivid gestures: a dark bicorne decorated with blue, white, and red, a deep green uniform with gold epaulettes, and a striking pink sash inscribed 'Ja Napoleon' in cursive. The design is balanced by a faint, fleeting sketch of a horseman to the left and a delicate gold line drawing of an Empire-style sofa at the bottom right. Typography combines bold, modern sans-serifs with classic forms, and Szancer’s 'jms.' signature discreetly marks the corner.
