ABOUT PRODUCTID 3410
This Art Nouveau toothpick holder, crafted circa 1900 by the esteemed Viennese manufactory Argentor, exemplifies the refined metalwork of early modernist Vienna. The elongated base takes the form of a fishing boat, its hull defined by flowing, organic lines and stylized waves at the bottom. A contemplative fisherman perches on the boat’s edge, rendered with careful attention to detail—the folds of his clothing, boots, and serene facial features are clearly articulated. The piece is cast in silver-plated pewter, resulting in a cool, silvery-grey surface with a natural, gently aged patina. The finish is predominantly matte, with subtle highlights on raised areas, underscoring both its age and the quality of craftsmanship. The proportions are harmonious, and the 'Argentor' signature stamped on the underside confirms its Viennese origin and authenticity. The overall condition is very good, with only minor signs of age such as slight darkening and small surface marks, but no repairs or significant wear. This small object carries the spirit of fin-de-siècle Europe: it tells a story of a time when everyday items were infused with decorative lyricism. The fluid lines of the boat and the soft transitions of light across the silvery surface evoke the movement of a river—an everyday gesture captured in metal. The fisherman, lost in thought on the boat’s edge
