ABOUT PRODUCTID 1711
This toothpick holder, produced by the Norblin manufactory in Warsaw between 1893 and 1907, exemplifies the artistry of Polish metalwork at the turn of the 20th century. Crafted from brass and silver-plated, it features a slender, upward-tapering conical form set on a round, gently domed base. At the junction, a stylized floral appliqué is rendered in crisp relief, subtly referencing late Historicism with Art Nouveau influences. The overall tone is a muted, warm silver, with areas of brass showing through due to wear, lending the surface a mottled, patinated appearance. The finish is predominantly matte, with traces of satin sheen in protected areas. Construction is of high quality, with well-executed soldered joints and clear decorative detailing. The underside bears the Norblin maker’s mark. Condition is good for its age: authentic patina, surface wear, and minor scratches are present, but there are no major damages or repairs. Within this compact object resonates the spirit of fin-de-siècle Warsaw, as late Historicism flows gently into the organic curves of Art Nouveau. The floral motif at the base seems to quietly bloom, while the slender cone evokes the atmosphere of bourgeois salons, where even the smallest detail reflected ritual and refinement.
