This hand-carved tribal sculpture from the Mama (Kantana) people of Nigeria is crafted from wood in a deep, matte brown-black tone, bearing a weathered patina that reflects the passage of time. The bold, oval shape features a central cut-out and stylized geometric contours, characteristic of traditional African art. Its surface displays visible tool marks and areas where the paint has worn away, revealing the raw wood beneath. Accents of vivid green and ochre yellow highlight the base, while a vertical line of small, multicolored dots or beads in blue, white, and ochre runs down the center, adding subtle chromatic detail. The sculpture stands on a simple, angular base and presents strong, abstract proportions that speak to the tribal craftsmanship of the Kantana region.
