ABOUT PRODUCTID 34245
This vintage umbrella stand from the 1960s, originating from East Germany (DDR), exemplifies a meeting of functionality and decorative craftsmanship. Made from solid wood—likely beech or oak—it features a warm, honey-brown hue with distinct natural wood grain. The construction consists of four panels with gently scalloped, contoured upper edges, set on small, rounded feet. Each panel is filled with a delicate openwork lattice of thin wooden strips, arranged in a regular diamond pattern. The satin finish gives a subtle sheen, while the harmonious proportions and slightly tapered silhouette recall the aesthetics of mid-century modern blended with classic European elegance. The stand is free from visible metal fittings, with smooth, carefully finished surfaces throughout. Its overall condition is very good—no damage, cracks, or significant signs of wear are present; the natural patina enhances its authenticity. The form of this umbrella stand evokes memories of interiors where even everyday objects bore the mark of thoughtful detailing. The airy latticework filters light, casting a soft shadow across the floor, and the gentle lines and warm wood tones speak in the language of the 1960s, when design was intended to be both useful and visually pleasing. The stand seems to tell the story of an era in which daily objects were designed for harmony—not only practical but also aesthetic. It could be used in a hallway or living room styled in mid-century modern fashion, where it pairs with natural wood furniture, light walls, and geometric accents. It would also suit classic interiors, where its subtle form highlights the space’s elegance. Consider combining it with neutral textiles, minimalist coat racks, or a wooden-framed mirror to further draw out its vintage character and the delicacy of its detail.
