ABOUT PRODUCTID 14656
Vase model 914, designed by Rudolf Schrötter in the 1950s for the Czechoslovakian glassworks Sklo Union Rosice, is crafted from pressed bottle glass—transparent, colorless, with a subtly cool undertone. The cylindrical body tapers gently toward its thickened, stable base, while distinctive vertical rows of convex, lens-shaped reliefs catch and reflect light, creating a pronounced optical and sculptural effect. The surface, apart from the raised reliefs, is smooth and glossy; the rim is carefully rounded and left undecorated. Measuring 15 cm in height, 7 cm in width, with a 5 cm opening, the vase exemplifies precise molding and consistent wall thickness. Preserved in very good original condition, it shows only minor, typical micro-scratches from gentle use. This compact piece echoes the spirit of post-war modernism—a drive for clarity and order, expressed in simple forms and the playful refraction of light. If the vase could speak, it would recall a time when design became democratized, thanks to new glass pressing techniques that enabled broad access to functional beauty. The pronounced reliefs, distant from the fragility of older glass, carry the optimistic vigor of the reconstruction era, where clean lines and functionality were infused with subtle decorative rhythm. The vase works well solo as a small accent on a light-colored shelf, its geometric pattern highlighted by ambient light. It could be paired with other mid-century pressed glass objects to create a serene, rhythmic display, or juxtaposed with handmade ceramics for a textured, eclectic mid-century modern look. In minimalist arrangements, it resonates on wooden or concrete backgrounds, while in a classic living room it serves as a delicate yet distinctive touch on a sideboard or bookshelf.
