This ceramic vase by the Amphora manufactory was produced in Czechoslovakia during the 1920s. Crafted from clay, its surface features a matte, finely textured ivory-cream finish reminiscent of eggshell porcelain. The form is rounded, tapering towards a narrow neck with two asymmetrical spouts linked by an arched, sculptural handle. Each side presents a decorative medallion featuring a hand-painted, stylized floral motif – pink and white blossoms with strong outlines set against a vivid green background, all bordered by a blue-violet ring. Contrasting elements are provided by glossy, deep teal glaze accenting the base, rims, and handle. The vase is signed, with all glazing and painted details original and consistent with the period; no signs of wear or restoration are visible. Condition is described as excellent – with no damage or visible traces of use. This piece brings forth the character of interwar Czechoslovakia—a time marked by a fascination with the crisp geometry of Art Deco and the gentle echoes of Japonisme. Its form tells of modernity’s optimism: a dialogue of matte softness and glossy boldness, subtle base tones and saturated accents, craft traditions intertwined with forward-thinking design. The flowers at its center seem to bloom with both restraint and vibrance, capturing the spirit of an era open to global influences, attentive to detail, and eager to weave artistry into everyday life.
