ABOUT PRODUCTID 36663
This amphora-shaped vase, designed by Zbigniew Horbowy for the 'Sudety' Glassworks in Szczytna Śląska, is an exemplary piece of Polish modernism from the 1970s. Crafted from hand-blown, soda-lime glass colored in the mass, the vase features a pronounced, bulbous body resting on a slender, elevated pedestal. The silhouette is completed by a sculptural, elongated handle and a sharply profiled spout. The color palette transitions in a bold gradient: from deep red at the base, through vivid orange, to a luminous yellow at the upper neck and rim. The transparent glass structure, with subtle milky inclusions, interacts with light to reveal new tonalities depending on the viewing angle. The vase measures 37 cm in height, 16 cm in length, and 12 cm in diameter. Preserved in very good condition, it shows no signs of damage or restoration. This vase speaks with the voice of its era, when functionality met artistic boldness. Its saturated colors and seamless gradients evoke the story of Polish design in the 1970s—a time unafraid to experiment with color, form, and light. The sculptural handle and dynamic silhouette impart a sense of motion, as if the glass were caught in the act of creation. Every detail, from proportion to texture, asserts a modern spirit and a distinctly collectible character. The vase can be displayed solo on a low teak sideboard or on a glass coffee table in the living room, where it will command attention in a minimalist setting. It would work well with mid-century modern furniture or in eclectic interiors curated by collectors, especially alongside other glass objects from the 1960s and 1970s. Pairing it with neutral textiles or geometric ceramics would highlight its modernist lines and luminous color palette.
