ABOUT PRODUCTID 23594
The 'aorta' porcelain vase from the 1950s is a representative example of modernist Polish design by the Karolina manufactory in Jaworzyna Śląska. Its form, inspired by the organic shape of a tree trunk or stylized artery, embodies the mid-century modern dialogue between nature and material plasticity. The deep, glossy burgundy is the dominant color, interrupted by vertical stripes in black and white that emphasize the vase's dynamic, flowing profile. The asymmetric, sculptural silhouette features a flared base and an irregular, undulating rim, enhancing its artistic character. The porcelain surface is smooth, with the original spray and hand-painted decoration preserved intact. The vase is signed with the Karolina mark. Height 17 cm, length 6.6 cm, width 5.6 cm. Very good condition – no signs of damage or restoration, and the decorative finish remains untouched. This vase tells the story of the daring Polish avant-garde of the mid-20th century—a period when modernity encountered organic fantasy. Its form, reminiscent of a pulsating vessel or a fragment of trunk, seems to translate the heartbeat rhythm of the era into porcelain: dynamic, slightly rebellious, and open to experiment. The smooth surface reflects light with a gloss typical of the 1950s, while the contrasting lines evoke the hand of an artist seeking a dialogue between function and form. The vase can be displayed on an oak sideboard or a modernist shelf, where it becomes a sculptural accent in the interior. It pairs well with minimalist vessels in light ceramics or glass, and also with a mid-century modern collection—against a neutral wall, its burgundy hue gains depth. One may combine it with a plant featuring simple leaves or a single, long branch to highlight its organic origins. It works equally well in an eclectic collector’s living room or in a contemporary arrangement inspired by the 1950s.
