ABOUT PRODUCTID 41478
This Art Deco vase, designed by Karel Palda in 1930s Czechoslovakia, embodies the refinement of interwar Czech glassmaking. Crafted from transparent crystal with the addition of uranium glass, it reveals a cool, yellow-green undertone, especially prominent at the thickened sides. The focal decorative element is a geometric V-shaped motif, executed in deep black enamel with precise, sharp lines—a hallmark of modernist sensibility. The wide, low body features an oval opening and a substantial, stable base, finished with meticulous attention to detail: faceted surfaces, sharply cut edges, and a highly polished texture all testify to the designer’s craftsmanship. Height: 14.5 cm, width: 17.5 cm, depth: 9 cm. Condition – ideal, with no visible signs of wear or damage. The vase’s form speaks of an era when glass became a medium for both experiment and luxury. Light dances across its faceted sides, and the uranium pigment provides a subtle, almost fluorescent glow, evoking the spirit of the 1930s. The geometric motif seems to guide the gaze into the depths of a period fascinated by contrast and precision, where the desire for innovation broke with tradition. This object—like a fragment of illuminated sculpture—transports the imagination to the salons of modern Central Europe, where glass artifacts witnessed conversations on art and progress. The Karel Palda vase could be set on a low console of dark wood or marble, allowing its transparent body to highlight the surface beneath. It can be paired with metal candlesticks or minimalist ceramics to accentuate its geometric rigor. The piece works equally well in interiors inspired by classic Art Deco
