ABOUT PRODUCTID 29527
The Aurinkopullo (Sunflower) vase, designed by Helena Tynell for Riihimäki Lasi in Finland during the 1960s, stands as a striking example of Scandinavian modernism. Crafted from transparent glass, its flattened, bottle-like form is defined by harmonious proportions (height 13 cm, width 10 cm, depth 5 cm). The front and back feature a pronounced relief of radiating sunflower motifs, lending the piece a dynamic visual rhythm and a striking play of light. The glossy, crystal-clear surface contrasts with the tactile, raised pattern, while the original 'Made in Finland' label at the neck attests to its authenticity. The base is flat and stable with subtly integrated feet, and the vase is preserved in excellent vintage condition, with no visible signs of wear, chips, or scratches. This vase tells the story of Finnish glassmaking’s golden age, when Helena Tynell, one of Riihimäki's most celebrated designers, drew inspiration from the sun as a symbol of energy and optimism. Its clarity and lightness evoke the luminous atmosphere of the Nordic landscape, while the geometric sunflower relief allows every ray of light to animate the piece with subtle shadows and reflections. The vase, like glass born from frost and sunlight, expresses the quiet joy of everyday beauty, inviting a pause to appreciate the purity of its form. The Aurinkopullo vase is well suited for placement against light, natural materials: it may be set on an oak console or a marble surface, where its transparency accentuates the surrounding clarity. It adds a distinctive accent to interiors in the mid-century modern or Scandinavian idiom, yet can also be combined with a collection of colorful glass or minimalist ceramics to reveal its understated character. The vase may be displayed solo with a single branch or leaf
