ABOUT PRODUCTID 36521
The 'Bałwanek' vase, designed by Kazimierz Krawczyk and produced at the 'Barbara' Artistic Glassworks in Polanica Zdrój in the 1970s, exemplifies the spirit of Polish mid-century modern glassmaking. Its construction features four smoothly joined, rounded segments, culminating in a wide, flared trumpet mouth. The rich orange hue of the glass subtly transitions to yellow at the rim, creating a warm, fiery gradient. The surface is glossy and mirror-like, with careful attention paid to the proportions and harmonious silhouette. Made from layered, soda-lime glass colored in the mass, the vase displays precise color transitions and a uniform wall thickness. This model reflects the influence of Zbigniew Horbowy’s school, celebrating sculptural form and bold color. The vase is preserved in very good condition, free from visible signs of wear, damage, or restoration. This vase tells the story of 1970s Polish design, when experimentation with color and sculptural form became the hallmark of leading art glass studios. Its fluid lines and intense, warm tones evoke memories of sunlit afternoons, with light filtering through the layers of glass, infusing everyday life with a sense of optimism. The 'Bałwanek' vase speaks in the voice of an era that valued synthetic form, playful proportions, and daring, saturated colors—as if it sought to capture a fragment of the light from those years within itself. For interior arrangements, it may be paired with simple, modernist furniture or natural wood to highlight the depth of the orange glass. It works well as a standalone accent on a sideboard in the living room, or alongside other glass objects from the era—especially in collector’s, eclectic spaces. Consider combining it with neutral-colored textiles
