ABOUT PRODUCTID 1920
This vase, designed by Jaroslav Beranek circa 1960 for the renowned Skrdlovice glassworks in former Czechoslovakia, is a distinguished example of 1960s Czech art glass. Hand-formed from multicolored glass, it features a substantial, elongated silhouette measuring 20 cm in height and 10 × 10 cm at the base. The dominant cobalt blue transitions smoothly into a lighter, almost transparent blue near the base, creating a striking ombré effect. The surface is highly polished, resulting in a glossy, mirror-like sheen. At the lower edge, hand-applied clear glass protrusions evoke organic bubbles, while the ground and polished base demonstrates meticulous craftsmanship. The condition is excellent, with no visible damage or signs of wear. This vase embodies the spirit of Czechoslovak artistic innovation of the 1960s, when glass was reimagined as an expressive artistic medium. Its weight and organic contours are reminiscent of sculptural experimentation, while the layered blues convey a sense of depth and movement. The piece, as if narrating its own era, alludes to the bold formal explorations and fascination with light—capturing and refracting it to create nuanced colors and reflections within. Jaroslav Beranek's vase could be displayed on an oak or pale marble console, where the glass would interact with the surface and reflect natural light. It works beautifully as a standalone statement in a mid-century
