ABOUT PRODUCTID 42114
The 'Bulwa' vase, designed by Danuta Duszniak in 1959 for the Pruszków Porcelain Factory, exemplifies Polish mid-century design in the New Look spirit. Crafted from ceramic with an airbrushed finish, the vase features a warm, saturated orange-red matte exterior that transitions smoothly to creamy white at the rim and interior. Its organic, bulbous silhouette with asymmetrical proportions is accentuated by a bold, vertical white brushstroke detail, evoking a sense of dynamic movement. Four small openings at the top allow for the arrangement of individual flower stems. The vase is signed on the underside with the manufacturer's mark; its surface remains uniform and smooth, with no visible joints or hardware. Preserved in very good condition, the piece shows no signs of damage or restoration. The form of the 'Bulwa' vase speaks in the language of 1950s Polish modernism, when designers explored new possibilities in utilitarian ceramics. Its organic profile, vivid color, and painterly accent recall an era of creative openness and the search for individuality. The object seems to say: “I belong to a time when sculptural form and everyday function could coexist, and daily life gained an artistic dimension.”This vase can be displayed alongside other mid-century ceramics or stand alone on a console to emphasize its sculptural presence. It would work well in a living room styled in mid-century modern, minimalist interiors with abundant natural light, or in eclectic spaces where it can contrast with raw materials like concrete or wood. Pairing it with simple graphite or glass accessories will highlight the depth of color and the energy of its decorative detail.
