ABOUT PRODUCTID 33452
This decorative vase, crafted from opalescent glass in late 19th-century France, is a refined example of period glassmaking. The tall, slender form seamlessly combines the functions of a flower vase and a sweet dish, resulting in an object that is both practical and sculptural. A central baluster-shaped connector in warm amber-brown glass visually separates the lower dish from the narrowing upper vase. The main body presents a milky white, iridescent tone, finished with a striking pink ruffled edge, while a pale yellow-green glass thread spirals around the stem, evoking the organic inspirations of Art Nouveau. The smooth, glossy surface enhances the interplay of light on the undulating lines and gentle curves. The piece is preserved in very good antique condition, with no visible damage or repairs and only minimal traces of age, typical for original glassware of this era.
The vase-dish tells the story of late 19th-century France, a time when decorative arts sought to unite nature and craftsmanship. Its opalescent sheen and organic detailing recall the fleeting mist over a river at dawn or the gleam of sunlight in a villa’s garden. The ruffled edges and spiraling glass thread suggest a sense of spontaneity and lightness, as if shaped by the whims of light and movement. More than mere decoration, this piece quietly echoes an era when even everyday objects aspired to be small works of art.
The vase will integrate beautifully into living or dining rooms styled in classic French eclecticism, as well as interiors inspired by Art
