ABOUT PRODUCTID 14485
This large glass vase, designed by Václav Hanuš for Heřmanova Huť in Czechoslovakia in the 1960s, is shaped from cool-toned transparent glass revealing crisp, lucid clarity. The 'Drapérie' model is distinguished by a bold, waved relief—deep, flowing undulations that animate the vase’s surface and catch the light in ever-changing patterns. The form begins with a stable, geometric square base (8 cm), expanding upward to a broad rim (15 cm) and reaching a maximum diameter of 17 cm at a height of 25 cm. Thick-walled and substantial, the vase features a sculpted, undulating rim in harmony with its draped motif. It is preserved in very good original condition with minor, age-appropriate scratches—authentic traces of mid-century vintage glass, with no evidence of restoration. The vase carries the spirit of Czechoslovak modernism: a respect for handcraft and a quiet experimentalism in organic form. The waves seem to freeze light, evoking the flow of a Bohemian river, while the transparency and clarity invite a dialogue with the surrounding environment. This vessel tells of a time when designers sought a synthesis of sculptural freedom and everyday utility, reminding us of the interplay of light and shadow inherent in thoughtful mid-century objects. 'Drapérie' would suit an oak console or complement geometric silhouettes typical of mid-century interiors. It could stand alone against a plain backdrop or join other glass pieces with simple contours. You might pair it with monochrome ceramics or steel candlesticks, or place it near soft, diffused light—on a windowsill or shelf—so its textured surface can cast subtle reflections, enriching both vintage and contemporary settings.
