ABOUT PRODUCTID 35205
This large ceramic vase by Scheurich, dating from the 1960s, exemplifies German mid-century modern design and the iconic Fat Lava technique. The vase features a classic, elongated oval form with a gently tapered neck and wide opening, crafted from stoneware. The upper section is coated in a vivid, glossy orange glaze, while the lower part transitions into a matte black with a pronounced, rough, lava-like texture—an organic and irregular boundary reminiscent of flowing magma. The rim is finished in glossy black, providing a subtle accent, and the interior is fully glazed. Measuring 51.5 cm in height and 27 cm in width, the vase weighs 6 kg. It is preserved in excellent, original condition, with no visible damage and was refreshed for presentation. This form echoes the spirit of the 1960s, when German ceramics embraced innovative textures and bold color contrasts, seeking new means of expression. The rough, tactile base suggests a fascination with nature and geological processes that inspired designers of the era. The orange glaze evokes the energy of molten earth—dynamic, vibrant, and full of movement. The vase seems to proclaim, “I am a product of an age that dared to combine contrasts and view the everyday through a lens of experimentation.” The Scheurich vase can be displayed solo on a low, light-wood sideboard, where its texture and color will stand out in a minimalist setting. Combined with other Fat Lava ceramics or richly colored glass, it creates a striking mid-century modern arrangement. It also works well in eclectic interiors—paired with dark planter pots, geometric art prints, or textiles in contrasting hues. Its expressive form and coloring can serve as the starting point for a 1960s-inspired living room scheme. The listed price refers to a single piece.
