ABOUT PRODUCTID 1907
This uranium glass vase, designed by Jan Kotik in the 1950s for Skrdlovice glassworks, exemplifies innovative Czechoslovakian mid-century modern design. The body features an organic, asymmetrical form, hand-shaped from uranium glass in a translucent, cool green hue with subtle yellowish-green undertones visible in thicker sections. Two pronounced, rounded side protrusions highlighted by amber-gold accents lend a dynamic, biomorphic character to the silhouette. The highly polished, glossy surface and ground, flat base reflect the sculptural quality of the piece, while images reveal the interplay of light and the clarity of its form. The vase is preserved in excellent condition, with no signs of wear, damage, or restoration. Its biomorphic contours and the contrast between cool green and warm amber details reflect the era’s fascination with nature and material experimentation, so characteristic of Kotik’s work. The uranium glass, which fluoresces under UV light, conjures the optimism and sensorial playfulness of a time captivated by innovation and optical effects. The vase can be displayed atop a low sideboard of pale wood or marble, where its form and color harmonize with interiors inspired by mid-century modern or eclectic collector’s styles. It pairs well with minimalist ceramics, metal sculpture,
