ABOUT PRODUCTID 37414
This indigo crystal vase from the Józefina Glassworks, dating to 1942, exemplifies the sophisticated Central European design of the 1940s. Crafted from high-quality lead crystal in a saturated, deep shade of indigo, its glossy and translucent surface is accentuated by pane faceting on the body. The form is distinctly geometric, with a pronounced, flared rim and a solid, multi-faceted base, which harmonizes with the main decorative accent: a broad, galvanic silver band encircling the upper body. The ornament, inspired by Vienna Secession and early Art Deco, features stylized floral and leafy motifs, executed with meticulous precision in linear and cross-hatched patterns. The transitions between the cut surfaces and the ornament are smooth, lending the whole object a sense of unity and refined materiality. The vase is preserved in very good condition, showing no chips, cracks, or signs of restoration; the silver decoration is intact and authentic. This vase carries an atmosphere of modernism and Secession—its geometric shape meets the organic softness of ornament, as though narrating the artistic dialogue of the 1930s and 1940s. The deep blue glass captures light with a cool sophistication, while the silver botanical band evokes the spirit of Vienna workshops, where tradition met the avant-garde. It is an object that seems to whisper of a turning point in design—a moment when Cubist fascinations entered utilitarian forms, and glassmaking became a medium for artistic vision. The vase may be displayed on a light wood or marble console, where its indigo tone will define the composition. Pairing it with minimalist ceramics or silver accents will highlight both its geometric and organic nature. It works well in a classic
