ABOUT PRODUCTID 16872
A porcelain vase measuring 12 cm in height and 15 cm in width, designed by Trude Petri for the Berlin-based KPM manufactory in the 1940s or 1950s. The form echoes postwar modernist values: softly expanding sides that flow toward an open rim, resulting in balanced proportions and inviting both light and flowers to become part of the composition. The vase's singular decoration—a hand-painted moth motif—was executed by Else Möckel near the upper edge, rendered in restrained hues of grey, black, pale yellow, and brown with touches of gold. No handles or additional embellishments appear; the entire surface, inside and out, is finished in uniform glaze with a satiny, warm ivory-white tone. The seamless finish and flawless transitions testify to KPM’s mastery of porcelain craft. The piece bears the manufacturer’s mark and is preserved in excellent, virtually untouched condition, with pristine, intact surface and fresh painting. This vase seems to carry the measured voice of postwar Germany—a design focused on harmony, connection, and thoughtful restraint. The moth, emerging quietly from the white expanse, hints at fleeting presence and the play of shadow and light across the porcelain. There is a calm, meditative spirit in the form—a sense of stillness that reflects modernism’s mature, quietly expressive language, far removed from overt ornamentation. The vase may be set alone atop a low timber sideboard, where the moth motif naturally attracts the eye. It works well against gentle wallpaper or grouped with other cream or white ceramics, offering a cohesive, minimal accent in the living room or bedroom. Combining it with a thin-framed drawing or a single branch would highlight
