ABOUT PRODUCTID 36074
The modernist 'Labyrinth' vase is a creation by Frantisek Vizner, produced in the Rudolfova Hut glassworks in Czechoslovakia during the 1960s. It is made from thick, heavy glass, standing 25 cm tall and weighing 1.8 kg. Its most striking feature is the relief geometric pattern covering the entire surface: vertical grooves and softly rounded protrusions form an architectural grid, giving the piece a distinct brutalist character typical of mid-century modernism. The glass is nearly colorless with a subtle warm amber glow, casting a golden sheen depending on the light. The glossy finish enhances the clarity of the material, while the cylindrical form with a gently scalloped rim and stable base completes the composition. The vase is preserved in very good condition, with no visible damage or restoration – the pattern is sharply defined and the glass structure is consistent throughout. This piece resonates with the voice of Czechoslovak modernism: the weight of the glass and the regularity of the ornament speak of an era that combined formal discipline with material experimentation. The relief surface evokes images of urban labyrinths, as if the vase were a fragment of contemporary architecture captured in glass. The interplay of light on the patterned surface creates ever-changing reflections as the vase is turned – an object that pulses with the rhythm of the interior while retaining the discipline of its time. The vase can be paired with a minimalist wooden or metal side table, or displayed on a mid-century modern credenza to highlight both its modernity and artisanal quality. It brings clarity and definition to a living room styled with collector's eclecticism, but is equally at ease in a pared-back contemporary space as a solo statement. It can be combined with a single sculptural branch or left empty, allowing the light and form to take center stage.
