ABOUT PRODUCTID 36744
The vase from the 'Merry' set is a design by Zbigniew Horbowy, produced by the Sudety Glassworks in Szczytna Śląska in the 1970s. Hand-formed from sodium glass, it features an elongated, dynamic silhouette with two distinctive constrictions—one at the neck, the other at the midsection. The coloration subtly transitions from a luminous yellow-green at the upper part, through a warm, honey accent at the rim, to a clear, colorless base. The surface is smooth, glossy, with a gentle iridescent sheen—an effect typical of Horbowy's finest work. The base is precisely ground with a characteristic lens shape, reflecting the glassmaker’s mastery. The vase remains undecorated, relying on the purity of its form and the nuanced play of color. Height: 27 cm, diameter approx. 11 cm. Preserved in very good condition, with no chips or losses. There is an echo of 1970s Polish modernism in this piece: the glass speaks of a search for light and color, of experiments in transparency and fluid form. The constricted profile suggests movement, as if the vase were emerging from a stream of molten glass, capturing a moment of energy and optimism from its era. The color—sometimes warm, sometimes cool—shifts with the light, allowing reflections to play across the surface like ripples on water. The 'Merry' vase can be combined with minimalist, modernist furnishings or serve as a vibrant accent in an eclectic, collector’s interior. It works well on a light wood sideboard, where daylight will emphasize its transparency, or atop a marble table among matte ceramics. It is worth pairing with other pieces of Polish art glass from the 1970s, or leaving it to stand alone so that its form and color can be fully appreciated.
