ABOUT PRODUCTID 1904
This vase, designed by Jaroslav Beranek for the Skrdlovice glassworks in Czechoslovakia, exemplifies mid-century art glass craftsmanship from the 1960s. Hand-formed from multicolored glass, the substantial, sculptural form features a dynamic, organic surface—deep, undulating reliefs and rounded protrusions flow across the piece. Dominant amber-brown tones transition into olive green along the base and some edges, highlighting the fluidity of the design, while the glossy, almost mirror-like finish amplifies the depth and vibrancy of the glass. The base is carefully ground and polished, reflecting the attention to detail characteristic of Skrdlovice. Measuring 23 cm in height and 11 cm in width, the vase is preserved in excellent condition with no signs of wear or damage. The vase captures the spirit of Central European modernism: its organic, animated form draws inspiration from natural motifs that gained prominence in applied arts of the 1960s. It appears as if glass—shaped by skilled hands—has frozen the motion of flowing water or the play of light through dense foliage. The color palette—amber, brown, green—evokes forest landscapes, while the wavy contours narrate a story of seeking harmony between nature and abstract expression, so characteristic of Skrdlovice creations. The vase may be displayed on a light wood sideboard, where its organic silhouette contrasts with the clean lines of mid-century modern furniture. It would also suit a marble countertop or minimalist shelf in a collector's space—especially alongside other 1960s glass pieces. Pairing it with neutral-toned ceramics or a single, elongated branch can further emphasize its sculptural presence and layered colors.
